Is that a pip or a 1 on the board? There actually was a panzer unit in Skijager Division 1 as part of the 1st Heavy Ski Battalion (4th company) that used captured T-34s.

            Very interesting pic.
It seems he wears a feldgrau wrap with black piped colar tabs ?
And i would say a pip on the shoulder board, a "1" would (normaly) be more in the center, not so close from the sleeve's departure.

              Ski-Jaeger Rgt. 1

It is possible that he is in the 4. Kompanie of Ski-Jaeger Rgt. 1. They had 22 T-34s on their order of battle. These were the early ones that the Germans refitted a Panzer III or IV cupola on. Truly a unique photo!

Pics of the t34's in question "T-34 m.1940 with germans Pz.Kpfw I Ausf F or Pz.Kpfw II Ausf J tracks from 1 Ski Jager Division. Also on the hull side noticeable instrument andspare tracks holders, and antenna logement. Possibly this tank was modified on the repair plant in the Riga. Probably Estonia, 1944."

I think I have seen this overseas cap in a collection. I am not positive, but it did strike a memory chord of something I saw, years ago.

For me the wrap is black, you can see the color difference with the field grey cap. I think that is a 1, it is too small and shaped differently than most pips. I have a waffenrock from a man who was in that unit and that is also what he was wearing on it even so late in the War for walking out etc. Took be a long time to figure it out. I think they mainly wore division numbers on their boards.

maybe, i noticed too this clearer shade of the sidecap.
But the sidecap could also have a field gray color, commonly seen with boiled wool material for instance, wich give a different shade comparing with feldgrau on b&w pics.
In my opinion, a black wrap generaly looks darker in b&w, even if light conditions may alter this perception.
                            To illustrate my words :

And on this pic, the feldgrau wrap looks pretty close to black :

Looking at the shirt, cap and jacket I would saw it is black. But you are French of course so my opinion is unimportant
