Pics of the t34's in question "T-34 m.1940 with germans Pz.Kpfw I Ausf F or Pz.Kpfw II Ausf J tracks from 1 Ski Jager Division. Also on the hull side noticeable instrument andspare tracks holders, and antenna logement. Possibly this tank was modified on the repair plant in the Riga. Probably Estonia, 1944."

For me the wrap is black, you can see the color difference with the field grey cap. I think that is a 1, it is too small and shaped differently than most pips. I have a waffenrock from a man who was in that unit and that is also what he was wearing on it even so late in the War for walking out etc. Took be a long time to figure it out. I think they mainly wore division numbers on their boards.

But the sidecap could also have a field gray color, commonly seen with boiled wool material for instance, wich give a different shade comparing with feldgrau on b&w pics.
In my opinion, a black wrap generaly looks darker in b&w, even if light conditions may alter this perception.
To illustrate my words :
And on this pic, the feldgrau wrap looks pretty close to black :
