Was anyone here luck enough to pick up the NCO strap with metal 'Fn+1' with Probe tag from Antiques Arms & Armor Historical Investments a few months ago? By the time I saw the strap it was sold or it would be in my collection!

                  Fn units

                  Tom:

Most interesting these signal colored "Fn" boards.....

Are you sure these "Fn" numbered boards belong to Führungs Nachrichten units?

The Germand HEER started the war with only one Führungs Nachrichten Regiment with 2 Abteilungen. This was Fn. Rgt 40.

In April - May 1940 the second Fn. Rgt. was rased: Fn. Rgt. 601 with a total of 10 company's. Fn. Rgt.40 expanded to 4 Abteilungen.

As far as I can see there were no further Fn. Rgt's. I don't see how these boards fit. Or had they been used at company level????!!!!

Your opinion on this one: Feld-Nachrichten-Kommandanturen (in 1939 they had 12 of these, till the end of the war there had been up to 70 of these FN Kommandanturen)

Which have been the highest numbers which have been found on this type of boards???

                  Regards

                  Eric

                    Eric,

I don't remember what my source was when I identified that Goth device (and I haven't had time to look), but you and I are both wrong - and OSS is right. See the attached strap with Probe tag. It is clearly identified as Festungsnachrichtenstäben.

In the interest of full disclosure: the source for the photograph is Antiques Arms & Armor Historical Investments.

For those of you who have purchased Dave and I's book: please make a note of that in the chart on p.58.

That's very interesting and a beauty. Thanks for the education OSS and Tom.

Interesting that the Probe card exactly states the strap is for those on fortress signal staffs "and so forth".

Mine was taken by an intelligence officer interogating POW's. He writes what you had originally written. Maybe both used the same device...not sure.

I suspect you may be right. The Probe tag reads "Festungsnachrichtenstäben usw." As Pauke pointed out, usw. is the German abbreviation for und so weiter (et cetera).
