      Materials and construction are not typical German, I suspect some foreign origin, very likely reworked Austrian coats as suggested.

        Maybe Dutch? That zigzag stitch pattern under the collar surely resembles the interior chest panels of these foreign tunics.

          I had wondered the same thing but with two examples apparently dated 1939 (if the markings are original) it would have to be something else.

            "Aha",,, found an old thread based on these;

            http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=163041 This one was dyed for post war use.

            No intent to beat a dead horse but these constructive out of the box threads are the homage of the WAF discussion forum.

            Another example with the dtd 1939. If markings original maybe a foreign incorporation or domestic retrograde into the upgraded depot classification system.

              I have a Dutch factory rework and will look at the stamps, I think it has Dutch stamps and reissue depot/size stamps. It is more blue though. I think this may be Austrian as was noted and reworked with some post War modifications and buttons etc.

                Here's the one currently on E-stand also dtd. 1939. for reference. I hope the seller "Zimzum77" doesn't mind additional publicity.

                There is still another thread out there with another identical example, but without the elaborate markings as these. Will keep searching. This makes three coats dtd. 1939 w/ German logos.

                  The lining material is the oatmeal HBT Drillich fabric. You see this used sometimes in coats.

                    Thanks for all the replies. I'm glad there is such a wealth of knowledge and desire to know more as I know little about uniforms

                      I do not think it is Austrian, the issue coats has slanted pockets like typical German coats, the Dutch overcoat does have reissue stamps etc. Not sure what it is, maybe a modified variation of one type of issue coat or something else reworked and redyed Czech etc.

                        Time to revive this thread and enigma here.

                        Courtesy of WAF Member "Fatherland44" I'm posting at his discretion another identical example of these elusive greatcoats he has in his collection.

                        I undoubtedly believe these were employed by the WH regardless foreign made or not. Too many consistencies with the markings etc. This should be the 4 or 5th known example here.

                        Comments encouraged please.

                                Ask for a close up of that last stamp flat so we can read it and see the date/year. I have seen that large odd "A" stamp before but cannot remember where. Maybe a Dutch issue item. I will go look in zee bunker.
