It does not match my Dutch reissue or an unmodified issue Austrian overcoat dated 1934. The interior and linings are very different. I think that nice stamp will help us out.

Johnny....I sent some more pictures to Ray. He will post them shortly I'm sure. The stamp appears to be a "1937" in the box and the numbers 1361 beside it. This Mantel certainly looks ALOT like the previous Mantel's posted. The Herringbone Twill interior is identical as is the cut, cuffs, collar zig-zag etc. Thank you for helping. Anymore insight would be greatly beneficial and appreciated.

I will be back tomorrow night. The HBT lining is used in many things from issue to reworked coats. I will be interested in seeing the stamp. The wording does not appear to be German but hard to tell.

IMO those overcoats shown in this thread are pre war czechoslovak overcoats reworked and reissued for use in Wehrmacht. The hbt material is very specific to pre war czechoslovak equipment and uniforms.

              Gentlemen,
Great thread! I will try to research some prewar Czechoslovakian Mantels to compare to mine and some of the others that are posted. The Czech route would make sense as the stamping in my Mantel appears to be a Cyrillic Text..

It most certainly appears to be dated 1937, at least that is what my eyes tell me! As far as the large "A" being an Ausgemustert Stamp, which was essentially a decommissioned piece stamp, this theory doesn't hold up to me as the font of the Bundeswehr appears to be a plain text style letter. The "A" that is in the Mantel appears to be an older font style as it has the line across the top and bottom of the "A", also, this thing is old. I mean, it has the age to it....the smell to it and conforms with previous Mantels that have been posted not like a 50's style or more modern Bundeswehr piece.

Does anyone out there have a pre war Czechoslovakian Mantel to compare with these or photographic evidence to substantiate this? I believe we might be on to something!

I should also mention, buttons are variously marked with the following letters: "M", "A&S", "P.J.P.", "Extra Fein". The place I got it from believed it was used by a Russian, eastern European country, theatre post war, Im not sure about this, I would like to nail down the actual Mantel not necessarily which theatre used it post war, if at all. Also, the shoulder boards appear to be nice original German Infantry Officer 1st LT. and are sewn in nicely. The POA patch could be post war as I doubt it was actually used by the POA....maybe? Thoughts?

The color of the wool is odd too. I think we will find it was a modified coat from another county.

Many thanks to Ray who has been helping me get these pictures posted~ I have sent him two (one with flash on) of the stamp. Perhaps someone can determine what language it is and/or what the stamp is! I see the year 1937 again in this stamp.

I would agree that it is something other than German. I am not too up on German Mantel's though.....Again, shoulder boards look like good sewn in type with infantry white underlay. The Mantel is more grey in color than the pictures allude to...Thanks guys! Maybe we can determine what it is and what country it came from! What do you guys think compared to some of your-other than German (BUT USED BY WEHRMACHT) Mantels??

It does look foreign. Maybe someone familiar with this language structure can be of assistance?
I also wonder why none of the other known examples posted have this stamp unless i'm missing it?

Ah we just might have narrowed it down! Does the cut and HBT conform with known Czech examples? Also, does anyone know if this is Czech script?

-Thank Johnny for your assistance, should I repost the markings on the forum to get some other insight from people who perhaps my recognize this as being Czech? Thanks!

Any Czech examples out there? Can anyone find any photographic examples?

Surely someone has a prewar or wartime example?!?!
