Some things about this I like, some things look really strange to me. Are the pocket flaps slanted or straight across?

This is not a standard Wehrmacht issue coat. I'm not really sure what to make of it. It looks to have been at least partially converted from whatever its original configuration was.

There is one on the E-Stand right now that looks almost identical.

              What are these?

Materials don't coincide with any NVA item I've ever handled-

Perhaps converted from some other nations? What did prewar Austrian greatcoats look like?

Right now, I believe it's Austrian, converted to WH.

These are WWI examples of KuK Greatcoats, note the pocket construction!

These identical coats have been discussed here in the past with as early German. The threads are there but will have to find.

There should also be no French cuffs on this example,,,right? Also by any chance are the buttons marked "Motz?"
I have one and will post for comparison later on today. Mine nor the others discussed have these elaborate markings, only a digit or syllable if I recall.

I checked a few of the buttons. The ones I checked are marked with just letters. G K L O ( some have just one letter others have two.

Here's my example. I will search the old threads for the other discussed examples as I would like to pin down the origins and more info regarding these examples.

I would suspect Wiemar era perhaps, then again they had the conventional slash pockets/French cuff fashion as well . All the buttons appear to be original an application and are uniformly marked "Motz" (known mfg of belt buckles etc.)
