A really interesting shoulderboard set....what is it?

    Dear all,

This weekend I acquired this lovely set - comprising of two pairs of text-book 'Artillerie' boards, an artillery signal 'blitz' and a truly superb photo of the set being worn.

Both pairs - a soldiers'-type and NCO-pair - show a very unusual 'monogram' (IMO made out of red-coloured 'Soutache')...and belonged to the soldier on the photo....

I deem it a very unusual and nice grouping....but what was the purpose? Does anyone of you see something like it before?

Thanks for all assistance and/or input....

    Best regards,

    Coco

Hi, that is a rare symbol used on Artillery boards that is not often encountered. I do not think the purpose or exact meaning for it has been identified.

Congratulations on a wonderful find. I have seen a few singles, but to find 2 pair is just fantastic. You are very fortunate.

The sign on the boards is for "Canon" (without a special calibre). I saw some pairs of boards like this before, but I could not find a picture of it in wear till now. Great find!

                    Best regards,
                    Andreas

A very interesting find and perhaps some new light on a previously little known symbol. Many thanks.

Interesting also how each pair has a different form of stitching the symbols on the straps, from incorprating soutache, to chain stitch, to direct stitch.

You will see this type of stitching on occasion. Some collectors do not like it but it was used especially at unit level etc. I also have seen a Waffenrock with these type of boards, probably ten years ago. Maybe someone else saw it for sale?
