    Strange shoulderboards. Fake?

I have here two shoulderboards. Both are made from leather. Does somebody know what they are?

I'd post these on the Army uniform forum. JohnnyR and Fred are the guys in the k now on RH period insignia and uniforms.......and they can correctly ID these I feel sure. I do not know when the rounded straps were used...that is were they used before the pointed straps in the early 20s and then again later in the mid-30s on or not..??

I think that these are for the Kraftfahr motorized uniform and that they pre-date 35 or so....I think maybe early 20s?

Thank you for your reply Phild. Maybe other members know what they are?

I like them. For a Luftwaffe leather jacket?

                  Greetings All,

Thanks Phild but I don't have much of an idea on these at all. I like your guess though and as I am out on the road at the moment I don't have any reference with me. Too bad somebody painted the numbers on them. It appears that metal numbers were removed.

                  Fred

                    boards

The first board with the AS is 'Artillery Schule' painted on after the metal device was taken off. That explains the red piping, (made of red leather?), and the yellow or copper brown piping on the last board with a '3' for signal, Kav., and copper brown. Can't really tell about color because of soiling or photos. Just a guess. I'm not familiar with these type of boards. DL.

I agree, they are pretty cool. Would love them myself, as these are neat variations. I would say both custom tailor made pieces for a luft nco for use on his leather jacket. Thanks for showing.

I had a pink piped example years ago and I believe both of these are rare specimens of the Heer Leather Armored Personnel Jacket from the Reichheer period. The tresse is the pre-war type used by the Heer. These are quite rare, many thanks.

                          Greetings ALl,

THis is what I think they are! I will check when I get home.

This is very interesting. I had really no clue what these shoulderboards were. So these shoulderboards could be from the Heer leather armored personnel jacket from the Reichsheer period. Fred I am looking forward to your finds.

The first strap is a Latin intertwined 'AS' for the Army Artillery School (excluding Training Department D). On 9 September 1935 the 'AS' device was changed to a Gothic 'S'.

Training Department D wore light brown waffenfarbe with the 'AS' device. It became the Signal School on 1 June 1934 and the 'AS' device was changed to a Gothic 'S' and the waffenfarbe was changed to lemon yellow on 21 April 1936.

I can't tell what the waffenfarbe on the second pair is.

I've seen three other single leather straps and I believe both of yours are period. Very nice and very rare!
