      When people start thinking too much they usually find themselves in a corner. I would trust the date on the card. It can be narrowed down and stick with more likely situations, no one was fleeing the Soviets in late 1944. Most likely it was taken from a house where he lived and may have been a tunic for leave etc. Being an E officer does not mean it is not real but the WWI service and rank does not match anyone for the active unit. There are better answers then others. My Dad is very sick right now and I do not have a lot of time to look around. I will try to look more later.
