If you would take the time to read and think about the posts you would able to understand that the point of the postings was how do you determine something is "battle worn or damaged". IMO unless as I stated something is from a family or a vet it is impossible, it is a bad phrase, originally configured tunics is a better term.

Experienced collectors like Mr. Singer try to get people to think about things and end up getting slighted. Glenn understood what we were talking about and was involved in the "fun" but with the spin applied towards him I guess he is exempt from this terrible crime. Mr. Singer (who has forgot more than most people on the forum "know") and I appear to be the targets here. I was going to post several Vet bring back tunics today but will not now.

I would argue that it is not too challenging in the case of machine-sewn breast eagles to determine if they were applied at the factory or replaced after the war. If the original factory applied breast eagle remains intact I think the overwhelming likelihood is that traces of wear and use are from the war years. This is especially the case with tunics with very heavy nap wear and small mendings, a vet wearing his bring-back at a Halloween party is never going to create this look. I would argue that clothing worn after the war would be stripped of at least the breast eagle.

Glenn shared some nice tunics here, a very welcome contribution. B. Singer on the one hand does not call himself an expert but on the other hand posts in his vague way and casts the broad brush of his "doubt" on a whole thread of stuff. I might suggest that most of the posters in this thread are well aware that Wehrmacht uniforms were worn and worn out after the war. "Provenance" is a term that is too widely applied and without real and specific documentation (I'm talking real specific, like wartime photos and some kind of chain of custody) any item must stand and fall on its own merits, and while it may be impossible to truly "know," it is perhaps reasonable to say that the chances are good that wear and small repairs from use on a tunic that retains its originally factory applied breast eagle are from wartime use, if not necessarily "battle damage." I have one enlisted combat tunic that I know for a fact is a vet bring-back (despite having no concrete documentation to back it up), I haven't shown it here as it has a replaced breast eagle, imagine that.

Hi Philipp, I know it is an amaizing tunic. I got it from straight out of the woodwork. I love the eagle zig zag application, look at it, the tunic was so used that Y-straps or backpack straps have ruined the eagle at the edges.
