Hello Kay,

that would be a possibility, but it does not look like the button was added later, all buttons are attached with the same thread, same stitching pattern.

I guess my question is "is it normal for rain coats to have 7 buttons on the left side and only 6 on the right" or was this coat modified?

I have had a few wool great coats and all of them had 6 buttons on both sides.

I browsed the internet and all wool great coats had 6 buttons, I could not find another rain coat....
