Are there any markings? (Actually I do see some in Post #5, but can't tell what they are.)

Sound advice.....it would however be nice to see a lot more detail photos if possible for future reference as I'm sure it will come up again.

Is the tab piping supposed to be pink or red?

For the benefit of all here, won't someone PLEASE point out the exact problems with this wrap? Not to complain too much, but I have been trying for years to learn about these, but after reading every post on this forum, I'm afraid the specifics are never stated or revealed and there is much contradictory information.

                          Leroy,

Are you speaking about HG wraps in particular, or just wrappers in general?

I've stated lots of specifics in the past.

                              Richard,
Indeed you have and you have been one of the best!

My concern is that, in looking at prior threads on HG wrappers, statements have been made (by example) that the HG simply wore Army-cut wrappers, and theirs are just Army wrappers with LW insignia, while (somewhere else) it has been said that HG wore both Army style and a special LW cut, with different shape to the lapels. Others say no, it was always a special LW cut. When it comes to linings, some say HG used a purplish-gray rayon, and others say different colors (blue-gray, tan, black) and fabrics (including "Italian" herringbone weave) were used. Some say they have to have LBA markings, while others say they will have no markings, regular size and maker or depot markings, or RBNr markings (not LBA). In terms of construction, one will be "blessed" that has the "tape' where the belt support ramps are placed going all the way down to the lower hem of the jacket, while others, also "blessed", stop a couple of inches short of the hem. One will have the adjustment strap "tunnel" running all the way up to the pocket area, while another will stop short a couple of inches back. On a more mundane level, some use blue backed eagles, some black backed, some have titles, some don't (which was optional, I understand). Some have collar piping, some don't. Some say the piping can be pink or yellow, others say only white. Sometimes the piping appears to be corded, sometimes badge cloth or other material. Collar tabs are sometimes elongated panzer types with piping joined (visibly) on the sides, others appear to have "seamless" piping (really tucked in at the corners). Some have no tabs, only skulls, some have white "block" tabs. Stitching patterns, especially in the collar area, vary tremendously. So far, in fact, I have yet to see two HG wraps "approved" here which looked the same or which could be said to have been made by the same supplier or even come from the same depot.

HG wraps in private collections have been posted by a number of people (Luca, Gene, etc.) with well-deserved good reputations in the wrap or LW fields, yet they are never the same. Similarly, wraps from established dealers such as Bill Shea have also been shown, and "blessed', but are also not the same.

I realize that, to you serious and dedicated wrapper guys, all this may seem silly, and there may be no fixed rules, but to someone like like me, I must say it's very confusing. I have collected LW uniforms (flight related - not HG) for a very long time and I feel pretty comfortable with them. Wrappers are a different world and although I have bought and studiously read every book on the subject out there (and not just the English language ones), there is really nothing that gets into real construction detail (maybe because of fears that it would help fakers). It used to be that all cuffs had to be "angled" in their stitching, but that has gone by the wayside. Similarly, thinking about the stitching in the collar area (and I think you and I had once a conversation trying to narrow this point down which was very helpful) has gone from the point where the "thousand stitch" collar was the kiss of death to the realization that such stitching may just be a by-product of the machines used and that period uniforms (especially Navy pieces made from the same grade wool as wraps) routinely used multiple lines of stitching to secure the collars which, if seen on a wrap, would be disqualifying. Same with stitching on the body of the collar itself.

                              Is there a "textbook" standard?

                              Sorry to "ramble on".

                              Regards (and thanks),
                              Leroy
