    Hello Gents,

Is this patch has any chances to be period made ?

    BRGS,

I hope that it is a good piece.

As a side noted, I would not want to be captured with that on my uniform!

No. It does not match the type accepted to be original. A clever effort by the fakers to make one think it is an original cut insignia.
      best wishes,

Thank Gents for opinions. Actually it looks better than recognized originals

            Hand embroidered Sniper badges . . .

            Hi guys,

Actually, hand embroidered sniper sleeve badges do exist. I have seen original embroidery templates for them made the Franz Glomm firm in Berlin.

From my understanding, Thiele & Steinert GmbH were known to have made both hand and machine embroidered versions.

I would be interested in the patch that started this thread if it were to come on the market.

            MfG,

            Diane

              Agree on both counts.

Saw two great originals at the Max.

Agree as well. And those two original were textbook.

As a cut off insignia collector I would not have the one in question, even if it were an original badge sewn to a peice of old wool. Not convincing at all.....

                  .
I have a hand embroidered example, picked up at the Trier flea market for DM10- if I remember correctly. I liked it then, I like it now. As for the one shown, it has a possibility of being a good piece.

I also have a hand embroidered example. In fact, I have two - one with no piping and one with silver piping. I acquired both of them about 30 years ago, well before any of the now accepted "real" examples ever appeared. I really liked them back then, but now I have mixed feelings. I thought they might actually be 1957 versions from a picture I saw on a book on the 1957 awards, but don't really know. When I get a chance, I will post some photos of them, as well as a more accepted version that I also have.

Well it sure looks convincing to me, but I am not a sniper patch expert...
Who is? These are so scarce...Do people really know all the period variants?

With any embroidered insignia there are always variations...Look at the GJ edelweiss examples... so I have a more open mind I guess...

I believe that if it had not been mounted on a piece of wool (cut off) it would have received more encouraging reviews...
Its not something I would toss in the junk pile! I actually like it A LOT!

Gene and Tom post your examples when you get a chance.

If this was a year ago, I wouldn't bother responding again to this thread but its not. There needs to be some clearity on the issue. There are a few collectors on this forum that know what they are talking about when it comes to these things.

Textbook examples are the only way to go, unless it comes from a vet. Period. And even than its probably going to be a known textbook example.

I dont know how people collect with the idea of something looking convincing or not and if it receives good reviews.

                          Hello Willi

I am trying to lean as much as I can about these badges

                          Can you help me please?

What textbooks would you say, have good, original examples of sniper badges shown in them?

                          thank you

By "textbook" I mean those known to be originals. We have discussed these for years here and there have been numerous original examples posted in the past. I just looked at 2 superb examples at the Max. I also have a number of photos of originals. They all exhibit the identical features.

These two books are the only two I have handy which feature nice "textbook" originals. The two I saw last week were the same.

I guess we will never see those hand embroidered examples....
