The Nazis were colaberating with the vatican at the time. As i recall it is still scandalous. I have a russian priests christian cross i got from a german woman. So was this cross with the uniform...interesting how the omega is the ring at the top. Ive never seen any all silver crosses worn by any christian priests in any photos yet of the period...but maybe somebody has some cross photos during the war they can post....

That cross has nothing to do with the German military. They were made for export and home country made use, both pre war and after..
The crucified Jesus over the skull and cross bones signifies Jesus victory over death........
A nice piece but you can find them at any good flea market here in the states $10 to $50 depending on size..

I agree, these were imported on a large-scale and are fairly often seen in with variations.

You confuse 'Odessa' with the Vatican. They just helped persecuted people, like they did in the war years for thousands of Jews. The 'odd bound' during the war years which you refer to was perhaps a remorseful SS officer (Kurt Gerstein) who informed the Vatican about the 'Endlösung'. Of course the Pope is guilty for not having used his 20 Panzer and 5 Airborne Divisions to prevent the Holocaust... Perhaps the ties to national-socialism and Italian fascism were the Papal letters in which he strongly condemned these 'pagan' ideologies because they opposed christian brother-love ('Mit brennender Sorge' and 'Non habbiamo Bisogno').
National-socialism and catholicism were like water and fire, as Himmler said on numerous occasions. Pope Pius XI was strongly against the New Order, his successor kept silent not because him was 'supportive' of it, but because he rightly realised that any actions against these ideologies would result in persecution of already more catholics.
And a link to the present: the main propaganda weapon of the Hitler-regime against the catholic church was accusing as may priest as possible of 'paedophilia'. Whether these accusations were right or not doesn't even matter... The confession father of Pope Benedict was right when he compared the present propaganda against the Church of Rome with propaganda against the enemies of national-socialism. It's the same mixture of lies, rumours and exaggerations. Of course child abuse is wrong and should be punished severely, but it's just like the above accusations (and the accusations of Benedict being a 'Nazi' for having been a Flakhelfer...). It's being misused for political reasons... And the people who use it are generally not hindered by historical knowledge...
Sorry, but your theories are so superficial and hollywoodesque that I couldn't resist to react in a thread that's really about chaplain's uniforms.
No hard feelings,
Lucius
