Obviously a Rumanian/Hungarian depending on whether you consider Transylvania to be Rumanian/Hungarian.

...beware anyone offered an untouched early war tunic from Gauleiter Arthur Greiser's extensive and eccentric wardrobe...as shown here; you'll find even Greiser wore a 'clearly wrong' sleeve eagle on his ss uniform...so, pass on it if offered, as being 'clearly not right'. (photo credit as indicated on pic).Attached Files

This thread is entertaining but also is a fount showing limitations of many collector's knowledge towards what was worn. 90% of tunics will be regulation in configuration. There is a danger of assuming that any variation is real but it is a personal choice to collect whatever you want.
I had a tiny War this morning over this eagle. It was not worn that way, done deal Cleopatra dead. Over. Enigmatic examples in photos only mean that there was (rare) variation, anyone who studies period photos knows this and it does not mean that all pieces of junk are period. That needs to be kept in mind. The thread is interesting but it is not a justification for all weird tunics etc. to be judged as real.
This thread was used as a member to suggest this eagle was worn this way. This is not a period application or wear. I had the fortune to talk to many German Vets and this is IMO nonsense.Attached Files

But ,this helps show what could have been done due to war supply issues ect.
and every one here knows if ANY of these items ,WITH OUT THE PERIOD PHOTOS; were posted here by the current owner , it would be ALL THUMBS DOWN !!
studio photos seem to be the ones you see the most not correct stuff. just got out of boot camp... & the photographer adds stuff to impress the folks / girlfriend at home.

Photographers in Germany during the TR era adding decorations to a picture so soldiers could impress parents/girlfriends?????? This would have been completely illegal and punishable by law. Anyone found out would be disciplined and shamed. It is highly ungerman (certainly back then and I would think now as well) to dishonor the decoration and the just wearers of such a decoration by claiming to be awarded such an honor. Cases of soldiers being court martialed for wearing decorations on home leave they were not entitled to (mostly a EK2 or IAB) are well known. So yes that happened. Photographers adding decorations on a regular basis for studio photo's I would think not.
