The ink have been diluted or someone attempted to remove it or wanted to make it look that way. Most families also typically remove or destroy the names before selling items to dealers etc. The pants are the same need better pictures, I would want to see the set.

You cannot base its originality on the negative reaction of a seller to an email where you tried to buy it out of auction then accused him of selling a fake and then demanded a COA when the listing states there is a return if the item is not original. His reaction was polite after all of that.

I am not saying it is real or fake and cannot tell from the photos.

Hubert Lanz was commander of GJ Rgt. 100 before the War and was promoted to full General Jan. 1943.

The type of the writing in this nametag i never see bevor, than the negative replays from the seller and the look of the tunic say to me there smells something like the nordsea. And Sorry, i have a high qualitiy account on the ebay, and i offer him a higher amount as he gets in the auction if the tunic is real, only thing i want is a positiv COA.

One look at the cap would be enough for me to throw a match on the whole thing. Alex

IMO it’s hard to tell if it’s a fake based on these pictures, everything seams fine and correct, also the quality and nice tailoring of the jacket appears to be original to me, but you must have things in your hands before you can 100% sure. I’ve received some good pictures and I liked what I see! And both of the adlers are still there! Yes it is pretty unused, but there are many good uniforms like this.

The tag is nothing unusual and you can find the same sloppy tags into Original tunics made by Wilhelm Holters from Berlin! The ink pencil's ink will disappears (or blur) when it gets older. Not also on Nametags, but also on paper! So nothing unusually. after all. And why should Insterburg be unusually??? It’s East-Prussia and we know he was a high commander (for example: he was the chief of ObergruppenfĆ¼hrer Paul Hausser in time he commanded the Panzerarmee Lanz in the areas of Chrakow around 1943). His direct orders came from Hitler himself, so he oft participated in staff assemblies in East-Prussia (Wolfschanze).

Most of the photo’s are taken into the warm periods, because it was the time for operations and mayor assaults, it was the time for propaganda and photo’s were mostly shot in those period of course of that. The winter was for both sides defensive (till 1944). This uniform on Ebay is a typical WINTER uniform, so you will not see it very quick on WW2 photo’s, because they were two sheep’s and a couple of rabbit on top of it!. And if you want to compare them, don’t use summer-period photos!!

And for those people who think that a general owned a single one uniform for his hole WW2 career I have news. A general hand a dozen of uniforms. I believe it’s a real uniform, but I think he didn’t used this uniform much...

The cap is in the pattern of a WWI Bergmutze "schneeschuhmutze" that was worn by mountain units including the Konigliche Wurttemberg Mountain units with which Lanz served towards the end of WWI. Again not saying it is real or not But it certanly is something if real he might have or would have wanted. It could be an elaborate ploy to decieve but again this stuff needs to be looked at in hand.

I agree with Johnny R 100%. I have seen plenty of stuff that is 100% original and looks like it was snatched with a time machine.

Very strange no one here can post better pictures, I have asked for but no answer, my thumb continue to be down, and I am quite sure by details showed is a fake made in Austrian style.

He sold it, and I imagine does not care anymore. I would like to have seen it. If it was real it would have been very interesting to see the hat especially.

Me too, there are nothing strange about that. I own a 100% original LW tunic that is in mint condition. There are a lot of 1700-century uniforms in museums that looks almost as good as new. Just because it is 70-80 years old doesnĀ“t mean it cant be in mint condition.

Still the seller seems a bit odd if he refuses to send more pics when he is offering a very expensive tunic.

The auction is over, I would not send pictures to anyone either. It was sold and is no longer his property etc. It may turn up here or renazified on a dealer site. I bet we will see it again probably soon.

Aha, well that explains quite a lot. I didnĀ“t know that the tunic were sold when asked for pics
