    White rucksack ID

This rucksack has been in my collection since a year or 4.
I have always believed it to be original, but have never bothered seeking confirmation or other opinions, as I put my trust in the source and still do.

The rucksack in question is made from white, heavy cotton-duck material and black leather. I know I have seen at least one identical example in wear by Gebirgsjäger troops in a period postcard. Sadly enough, I do not know where I saved the scan of the postcard. The postcard shows Gebirgsjäger utilising ski's while ascending a besnowed mountain and was printed in sepia-tone colour. If any one knows which card I'm talking about and has a scan to share, please upload it here for educational purposes.

I would highly appreciate your opinions on this piece. I am sorry for the bad photography, but had to use my old digital.

    Thanks in advance.

    Sincerely,
    Vincent S.

Is it really made of WHITE canvas? or is it possible that it is tan canvas bleached by sunlight?
I own several of this rucksacks, but not in white - I have brown, tan and grey ones. The tan ones are extremely bleached. Construction is similar to WW2 rucksacks, but they are early post war east german. Typical for east german rucksacks are the shoulder straps made in canvas / leather mix and normally you find stiffeners in the sides of the rucksack.

      Hello,

I always held the material for white canvas, not bleached tan. It might be bleached tan, but it simply appears to white to me for being just that.

      Anyway, I appreciate your opinion.
I will have to look for that postcard, I am sure it showed an identical example in wear during the war. Not saying that mine is original, just that I have seen this style in wear during the war.

      Sincerely,
      Vincent S.

I have seen white examples that were painted and field made cloth covers for these but never a white pack. I would think it would have normal wartime markings if WWII.

As it is currently packed away for storage, I was not able to make some additional pictures. So here's one from when I had it on display... Please don't look at the helmet, we were all starters once

I recall a near-illegible mark on the underside of one of the shoulder straps. If memory serves, it was in purple or bluish ink.

          Regards,
          Vincent S.
