I have a BeVo edelweis on a cotton tunic which is a better match BUT a woolen version is absolutely OK.
They used whatever was available...
Classic example = DAK tunics with woolen specialty insignia or woolen rank chevrons applied.
Woolen DAK insignia were of coruse intended for the greatcoats (woolen overcoats) but were used on cotton uniforms all the time.
Of course this is not a DAK tunic, but I am only illustrating that such combinations are not unrealistic
(in any theatre, Africa or Süd front)
I agree, they used what ever they had on hand or thought looked best.
