    LW summer tunic eagle

I recently bought this nice Assmann Tunic Eagle of the estand. As I know nothing about these eagles I would like to ask your opinion on this item.

    Many thanks,
    Pascal

        What do I know?

        Pascal,

I admit that I know nothing of these, but would like to have a couple myself. I will say tha the quality of manufacture looks quite good IMO and the eagle looks proportioned well, so my "guess" is

There should be some past threads on this, have you searched at all?

Just a generalised question, spurred by viewing the eagle above, but not directed at it...

If a maker was producing ornamatation to wear on a white summer tunic, why on earth would they use natural steel on the pin, knowing full well that it would be prone to corrosion, and then soiling on the uniform?

Are summer whites known for orangy pin stains above the pockets?

          just curious..

Accidentally offending people on the internet since 1997

@Tim, I did a search before posting this thread and I came up with this thread http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ead.php?t=6255 Rich Lundström showed the exact same Tunic Eagle but there wasn't a real conclusion if the eagle was original or not.

@Mark, very interesting point you made there, maybe someone can give an explanation for this (or not).

            Thanks,
            Pascal

                Hi Pascal,

Your eagle is a 100% original late war zink example.
                It's in good shape too.
Just like the flightbadges material changed to zink and iron during the war.
Although a late war version I think it's a very nice Summer eagle.
A few months ago I spoke to Rick..
Guess where Rick's eagle is now..?
I'm a great fan of these Summer eagles myself...
I haven't seen any other makers than Assmann concerning the zink eagles sofar.

Who else then our own Jos came to the rescue. Thank you very much for your opinion and for the link to the other thread. I should have done a better search .

Anyway, it is always nice to have some expert opinion on your items especially on those you know nothing about.

                  Thanks again guys,
                  Pascal

Ps. I won't guess about the whereabouts of Rick's eagle, I should have known better .
