Anorak Ski pullover - any info?

    Hi folks,

Got a call this week from a vet on the add I run in the local paper. He was a Staff Sgt. assigned to artillery (40mm AA) who found himself later assigned to a stockade in Italy housing German soldiers. In his capacity he had access to captured supplies & he brought a few things home. Among them was a ski suit of some kind which, I’m guessing, from looking around here, is called an Anorak which, he brought home because he skis & could (did) use it.

The only markings I could find were on the pants (by the belt), where it’s stamped (to the left of center) “WIWEG” over a “1”. The pants, unfortunately, were attacked by squirrels during winter storage thus exhibit an almost square hole about 2.5” wide. as well as a couple of smaller tears or nips. It's white/tan reversible having white (perhaps plastic) buttons on one side and brown (maybe cut out leather) buttons on the tan side. The pockets facing the rear are also reversible.

Not knowing any more about these than reading a few threads here and the background & description on the examples over at Collector’s Guild, I would like to know which ‘style’ this might be (if it even had a name or style) and any details anyone may provide since, where I don’t have space in my office for a mannequin to display, it's my intent is to find it a home for this and would like to be able to describe it properly to any interested parties.

I’m posting four shots, front & back but I have a bunch more if more are needed/wanted.

Hoping someone might provide some insight. Thanx in advance. Rick C.

(wondering... what's the buttoned flap for running up the back?)

There were several variations of these anoraks. I guess if one had to put a designation to these, yours would be the "standard" or most common type. The buttoned flap you mention was designed to go under the crotch and button on the other side, thus keeping the garment from riding up in the wind. Not always too popular with the troops as you can imagine. The anorak is common --matching trousers are tough to find.

Here's what the set looks like thrown together. Not that I have room for another mannequin in my limited space but I wanted to show that the pants (with the squirrel damage didn't show when set up as some might.

the jacket again - If it hangs around here I'll have to swap our the Browning onto my General's belt to go with the General's M38.

The pants - no sign of the 2.5" hole left by the New Hampshire squirrel under the smock.

Nice set up....but what you need is a snipers veil to cover the face...
                  To girlish looking Ric

Well Gary, I'm hoping this will end up on someone else's battle hardened dummy so this sissy looking guy can go back to my wife's clothing racket rather than my having to make excuses for any 'don't ask/don't tell policies'.
