Hi folks,
Got a call this week from a vet on the add I run in the local paper. He was a Staff Sgt. assigned to artillery (40mm AA) who found himself later assigned to a stockade in Italy housing German soldiers. In his capacity he had access to captured supplies & he brought a few things home. Among them was a ski suit of some kind which, I’m guessing, from looking around here, is called an Anorak which, he brought home because he skis & could (did) use it.
The only markings I could find were on the pants (by the belt), where it’s stamped (to the left of center) “WIWEG” over a “1”. The pants, unfortunately, were attacked by squirrels during winter storage thus exhibit an almost square hole about 2.5” wide. as well as a couple of smaller tears or nips. It's white/tan reversible having white (perhaps plastic) buttons on one side and brown (maybe cut out leather) buttons on the tan side. The pockets facing the rear are also reversible.
Not knowing any more about these than reading a few threads here and the background & description on the examples over at Collector’s Guild, I would like to know which ‘style’ this might be (if it even had a name or style) and any details anyone may provide since, where I don’t have space in my office for a mannequin to display, it's my intent is to find it a home for this and would like to be able to describe it properly to any interested parties.
I’m posting four shots, front & back but I have a bunch more if more are needed/wanted.
Hoping someone might provide some insight. Thanx in advance. Rick C.
