    Stug Wrap, private purchased?

    Hello Guys,

any chance to be a good one? I know its not a textbook tunic, but maybe a private purchased?
This tunic is a rebuild of a carnival jacket (picture 1 and 2).
The little collar is original, there were no modifications with the collar.

    Best Regards, Frank

This jacket was most likely made for theatrical use, even without the embellishments. There are no interior pockets and it does not appear to be made well enough to call it a tailor made private purchase piece. As you have shown it can be made to resemble an assault gun wrap, but I think thats about it.

What does the underside of the collar look like?

No, no joke. Why you think so?

Another picture from the collar (without collar tab).
The size of this tunic is near xs.

Maybe its a post war piece. I don't know if they were still using field gray wraps after the war. Thanks for the view under the collar, its not put together like a WWII example except in a superficial way.

I agree fully. The material looks a lot like the very cheap late period DDR cloth that was used on tunics and greatcoats that sold in mass in the west when the wall came down. I think that this wrap was made in the 1980s or later.

It is amazing that it is as similar to a period cut as it is when at that same time it seems clear that the maker was not trying to fake or reproduce an actual WWII wrap.

                Hello phild,

                thank you for your statement.

I think, if this tunic was made post war, so somebody try to fake an ww II wrap.
For me there are too many similarities. I try to show you what i mean in this pictures.
So maybe someone try to fake a ww II wrap with this late period DDR cloth. I will compare the material with this late period DDR material.

I would certainly defer to Phil and his opinion, as he has a lot of insight into pre and post war German materials and uniforms. Gives him a great heads up when they use use pre or post war uniforms, parts or materials.

I agree probably theatre / film use.
Based on the lining and no attempt to use adjustable cuffs.
Not something often mocked up for films.

But I think there are 2 in Battle of the Bulge, Generals batman
and the officer who plays Panzergrenadier leader.

Prehaps someone can post a screen shot.

                    Cheers,
                    John.
