I like these as well and have just bought some mint ones a GI took from storage. Nice to have a Panzer, but I was really happy to see the maroon one for the Nebeltruppe.

Are these ones late war? They have the stitched edges like the late war eagles.....

Thanks Steve. Are the two on the right on thin material with sewn edges as I mentioned above?

Blitzes with stitched edges like the late war eagles

This style of Blitz was made by the Franz Raab GmbH firm in 1944-45. After Germany lost access to swedish wool in 1944 the supply situtation became chaotic at best. The rayon embroidery on mesh became a wartime economy measure to conserve scarce resources.

We have to rememeber that the German economy and military procurement system were gearing up for a war that could have lasted until 1947-50 and had to manage their resources accordingly.

Franz Raab left the textile embroidery business in the 1960's switching over to electronics. Sometime in the early 1980's Globe Militaria bought almost 100,000 pieces of insignia from Raab when they cleared out the last of wartime stock in their warehouse.

Somewhere I have a bunch of Raab pricelists and catalogs for this stuff. I will look for them and post some at a future date.

                      Sincerely,

                      Diane

Another green comparison. I don't think colour is 100% accurate in the photo, but the darkest to lightest shade is left to right.
