    shoulder straps - unusual material?

I would like your opinions on these shoulder straps.

Have a look at the weave of the fabric (unusual to me).

original boards, probably about 1943 vintage, look at tongue not keyhole but slotty stitching. normal wool just that all the nap wore off, and got mothed. I have had others like this, just stored in a bad environment...

      what he said
Give a man an opinion and you feed him for a day,
teach a man to use the "search" function on the WAF and you feed him for a lifetime.

I disagree that it is "normal wool with the nap worn off, and got mothed", however, I agree that the straps are original. Here is a pioneer strap with similar material.

Here is an Infantry NCO strap. I believe straps made of this material were destined for the "moleskin" type tunics.

Yes, it seems the same wool. Also I notice on mine that the wool is very rough to the touch compared to other tunic wool.

                        Thanks Lenny,

that's it, even the shade of field-gray is a match.

                        Regards, Hardy

Classic originals. No worries over this pair.

Well does not look like moleskin to me. these are definitely made of mid /late war crappy wool, one can see how the nap on these easily pills off. IMO

You are right it is not moleskin ( I wore moleskin in the Bundeswehr - different weave and feel) - but it is exactly like the strap shown by Lenny.

Thanks again everybody - could have not hoped for a better response.
