I disagree that it is "normal wool with the nap worn off, and got mothed", however, I agree that the straps are original. Here is a pioneer strap with similar material.

I agree, ths is a type of fabric that shows up during the War. I have not figured out what it is. It may be foreign and redyed.

i agree spelling ERROR corrected i have a hard enough time sewing on a button let alone fabricating a pair of late war boards
