I also suspect the eagle is replaced post War, the rest fall into a front tunic but you never really know. Would need to see it. I dye on the boards has oxidized to the brown green, they used coal based dyes later in the War that sometimes do this. I had a stg. wrap that had sleeves this color but the body remained field gray, it was 100% but UGLY

Tabs look original factory appliad, boards are original imo, but ugly
Eagle looks to be postwar applaid..

Thanks for the replies, thanks for the info on the boards (coal based dyes) John, i was wondering about them, If they're original front line they're good to me, but i see what you and Jens mean,and the mothing on them doesn't help.
yes i agree the eagle looks most likely to be post war applied. My main concern is that the collar tabs and tress is original to the tunic. The tress on the boards looks to me from the photo's to match the collar tress in the type of exposure and wear it has had so i'm hoping all is good excepting the eagle.
I'm not up with periods when different types of collar tabs came in, are these late war tabs?
The tunic looks to be retailored, maybe the tabs were applied at this time (assuming these are late war tabs) and the tunic reissued.

Hi Greg the tabs are fine for this pattern and are factory applied IMO. I think it will make a nice display if the eagle properly re-applied. Nice M41s are not common.

I agree. The collar tabs sit well and have been there from the start. I think the litzen sits well also. With the exeption of the breast eagle, I believe this insignia has aged properly with the tunic.

I received the tunic. The breast eagle is not as badly applied as it looks in the photo it has a fairly thick green backing that gives the impression (in the photo) that it is loosely applied, it could be better but i will leave it as is.
There is no doubt the tabs and tress are original applied to the tunic, this is more obvious looking at it in hand.
Overall i'm pretty happy with it as it's definately an original field service tunic,
whether it was worn in combat i suppose is anybodies guess, but it was definately worn in service.
The medal loops look to me to be original applied, maybe the ones above the pocket ( in pic 3 ) are for a close combat clasp, the four loops look a bit long for a ribbon bar.

That eagle is an awful sloppy handstitch.
It would get you kicked out of a morning formation.

Back in "the days" when lots of uniforms were missing eagles and eagles were cheap, I would give them to my grandmother who had sewn clothes all her life.

She could do a beautiful handstitch. She was not thrilled about "Nazi stuff" though.

I think we had the same Grandmother! JK Mine thought me how to sew by hand after she started having trouble with her fingers. Also loved it when I got her sewing box with thread going back to the 1940s..

I decided to resew on the eagle, (it annoyed me a bit to look at it), it's not a great job but an improvenment. If my German grandmother was still alive i'm sure she would have done it for me. Unfortunately my wife won't go near the nazi stuff (she doesn't understand).
