The tunic is taking a long time to clean and stabilize. I will post that when it is ready. Here is Kutzky as a Junior Officer in the 20s. Note the EKI, he was awarded the cross in 1919 maybe fighting Silesia etc.

John, you are a miracle worker. The cap looks fantastic, in light of it's previous condition. Your research has also put a name and unit to this puzzle - kudos to you!

Thanks, it is fun to do but it take so long sometimes. I enjoy it. The tunic will be ready here in a little bit. I will post that too.

          This is a great thread!

Nice to put a photo of soldier to the tunic and visor.

Great research. This is what forums are about.

I finished getting this one back to at least being stable. Here is the tunic before the cleaning process.

It was covered with silverfish slime and mildew and was dry rotting. I spent a long time cleaning it trhough hand washing and drying it and doing it over and over to get the crap out of it. The first washing the sink was fun of 80 CM of water that turned coal black.

Most the stuff I could get out aside from a cigarette burn, the mildew staining where it changed the color of the cloth on the left shoulder and and the staining from the EK I Hinge. I had to clean it or it would have fallen apart in a couple years. Rank pip was in the pocket.

John, it doesn't even look like the same uniform. I don't think many collectors would have the patience (or know how) to undertake such a project - splendid results!

Thanks, dipping it in the water the first time was fairly terrifying but if you are careful it is usually okay.

The most important thing is handling it carefully when it has the weight of the water in it and not putting pressure on seams.

It had a lot of surface staining and damage but the thread and main fabric were still intact.

I am glad you appreciate seeing it. I will work on it a little more over time but first had to get the grime and organics out of it to stabilize the fabric.

Thanks again, Naxos figured out the name and Mike at Westmoreland reserch found the service files.

Based on what I can tell he was a "problem solver" for OKH and was sent all over the place to supervise projects and collect information, based on this tunic with regimental numbers probably often undercover as a line officer to investigate WH units and report to OKH. He was affiliated with the ABWEHR and sent on a "scientific trip" to Norway in 1939, Italy to assit in assessing unit quality and strength. I wish there were classified records. He appears to have been something like US Army CID and made General Major 9/11/44, DKiS 30/8/1944.
