                Here's a question I've asked before :

With all respect,do you all think all these items were cut off in the field ?
Many answered yes,but I can't imagine GI's killing railroad people and cutting off railroad patches..

                  Jos,
The father of an old friend of mine served in the US Army in WW2. He was a rear-echelon type that advanced from Normandy behind the front-line combat troops. I don't recall his exact duty, but he had the flexibility to help himself to discarded uniforms etc and cut the insignia and paste them into a scrapbook. Its been thirty years since I've seen that book, but it was easily 30 or more large size pages crammed edge-to-edge with cut insignia from a wide variety of ranks and services. Supposedly none of his were cut from the bodies of "kills" but came from more mundane sources...discarded uniforms, warehouses, tailor shops, POW's and even traded among the other souvenir hounds in his unit. Man, would I like to get my hands on that scrapbook now!

Some were, some weren't. Some were saved from old or mothed up tunics bound for the trash. And, I think a lot were cut from prisoners' tunics because anything with the Swastika would have been fair game. Our soldiers would have been sick of seeing it after witnessing the slaughter it brought.

Nice railroard pieces! Thanks for sharing, Bob!

Ever wonder why there are so many luft. cut-off collar tabs?

Almost never see original S.S. collar tabs cutoff. And I have NEVER found a NSDAP Political leaders tabs cut off. However I did own a whole sleeve to a party member.

What do you think is the rarest item in your collection, does not need to be the most expensive.

                            Any other's wish to share?

                            Cheers,
