I hope I havent stretched the limit of cut off insignia. Several leather strips of fabric cut from "Gen Herman Goering sofa" Berchtesgaden Ruins 1945. I like to think the strips are from the upper portion of the sofa. Vet. family obtained. Bill

Bill, I guess that strip of sofa counts since a GI cut it off.

Great insignia guys. John, I love that Luft M43 insignia. If I can ever talk you out of it, please let me know.

Thanks Willi. I will keep you in mind. It is a personal favorite though.

I've been pondering this question Howard, and I have to say my KM tropical cap insignia. I have a POA patch and an Allgemeine SS numbered collar, but I've seen both as cut-offs in other collections. I had thought cutting apart a cap for the insignia would be a rare thing because they could be folded up and stuffed in a pack so easily, but after seeing all of them here, I wonder...................A real great bunch of items since I've last posted, guys! And some good photo quality, too.......I found some cut off KM eagles and will post them when they arrive. - Cheers, Rob

            Rob,

            Thanks for your response.

Funny to ask a question, I can't even answer for myself.

Also pondered, why so many Luftwaffe collar tabs?

The overseas hat question is also curious. Just fold and go....and not many of these pieces show extensive moth damage. Good question.

Odd thing. Now we're going to have the overseas hat collectors' accusing US of destroying perfectly good hats!

Rob, have you added any new police pieces?

            Cheers,
            Howard

The last Polizei thing I got was this, around 2 years ago. Don't get me started on police stuff.

Sure Matt, I know of a FJ green step-in smock that has a hole where the eagle once was. I also know of a splinter step-in smock where the eagle was cut out and someone tried to restore it wth anither eagle. A shame.....

                    Hi Matt,

Good question. Senior Zahn has seen some smocks. However, I personally have not seen any of these sliced up tunics. With that said, I have seen a dealer at a major U.S. show hack up a tunic for the insignia. So not all of these were done period. And currently some fake insignia is being sewn to uniform material.

                    Cheers,
                    Howard

Many years ago I saw a guy at a gunshow cut a "Florien Geyer" cuffband from a WSS officers field tunic. He had been trying for months to sell the outfit for a hundred bucks.

The GIs who cut insignia just wanted insignia, not many wanted a nazi hat to wear. Also it is very light-a big deal if you are a rifleman.

I have some buttons my grandad cut off some Huns.
Also a "de emperialized" belt and buckle.
