Edelweiss, piece of crap? Opinions wanted

First I need to say I´m sorry for the bad photos, they are what they are.

Bought this edelweiss for fun and I do not for one second believe it is in any way a good one. I put it under the UV-light and it didn´t glow, really means nothing, just a fact.

Maybe it is early Bundeswehr or what?

    ?

Well, hard to judge, because I haven't seen anything like this before. I'm still a rookie. Though two things. Never seen one original with seemed backing. And the design is odd, I think.

Let the big guns shoot on it...

      Edelweiss

That is constructed in WWII era style. I know it is not a standard issue example etc. but may be some weird civilian association patch. The other option is post-war Veterans groups. Bundeswehr did not have insignia like this as far as I know the edelweiss was a different design after the War.

It is very well made to be a cheap fake etc. I have never seen one like it before.

Maybe it is from a guest towel at the SS Gebirgschule? You can sell it to Snyders.

I agree that it is too well made to be a cheap fake, the threads are metallic and it is overall well made.

I will try to take better pictures, because those crappy ones that I posted are a bit blurry.

The whole thing is interesting, and for the price of 5 $ it is worth it.

            Badge

Well, it is beyond doubt patterned on the WWII officer's style patch. Hopefully someone will recognize it. I would check LW squardron insignia and KM, Merchant ships etc. Norwegian and Northern based units used the Edelweiss too. I saw you are in Sweden, right general area. You might get lucky, it may be something rare or. . .a piece of crap. Who knows, it does not look recent though.

The metal insignia on the cap yes, not the sleeve insignia. Even that was strictly against the rules, officially. Found an order from one of the higher headquarters (think it was AOK Norwegen iirc) a few weeks back when going through some microfilm reminding subordinate units that the edelweiss was for authorised mountain units only.
Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.

Thanks for your input, very interesting.

I was looking on a german big dealers site and he had like 10-15 different edelweiss variants and about 5 of them was officiers variants that strongly resemble the one I posted, but he didn´t have the one I posted. Of course that is not a guarantee of nothing, just an observation.

Where can one find more info about these edelweisses?

                  Gold

They should all be silver not gold if they are real. There are many books on the Gebirgsjager, the best ones are in German. Interesting piece, Let us know if you get a match.

I was searching the net for edelweiss pictures for like 5 hours yesterday, couldn´t find a match, but it looks like a officers ww2 edelweis but the the thread is gold instead of silver.

Maybe like the Sepp Dietrich LSAH-cufftitle. *lol* or Dietl´s bathrobe or pyjamas

                            Hi,

I have checked Cardona/Sanchez: Deutsche Heeresuniformen und Ausrüstung, page 21. There's a beautiful private purchase sleeve edelweiss for high officer, maybe for general in gold...

but the pattern is the regular, not like this. I still don't like it.

Which are those repros with the same backing type? Something like Pakistani ones? Breast eagles and so... (I can't recall now)

                            BergführerKiser, please say sumthin'!

                              Update:

Mailed pictures of it to Weitze and he told me it was most likely a fake, nothing more, not why. Maybe it is a fake, but they have put in some good work in it.
