Yes, same pattern a little different, it is "RAD" pattern, see page 334 in the Angolia and Littlejohn volume on RAD. I am sure they used it on Army tunics just like LW was used on Army tunics etc. I still think they are Heer Pioniere.

I wouldn't say it is rare, just unusual. It actually might make them less valuable on the market, some people only want text book examples etc. They are nice though, very interesting to see. I like odd and unusual items.
