    Thiele & Steinert Pieces

    Hi,

Over the past year or so I have noticed alot of the T&S House master pieces for sale on dealer sites. And just recently Kai posted about a hundred such pieces. Does anyone know the story behind these? A little over a year ago I had only seen a few on dealer sites and one in Mike Everett's collection. Was a warehouse found with these in them?

    Any help appreciated.

I hope that the person who discovered them at least took the time to make detailed photos of each piece before sending them into the winds. I am sure that there are a lot of "unknown pieces" in there, complete with the labels IDing them!! These sets are valuable research pieces!!!

        Gary,

The story I heard was, years ago Kai found a lot of leftover stock from the firm. That initial find was legit as far as I know. However in the years since then, a lot of insignia has surfaced that has been attributed to that same find. I don't know if all the new items are original or not.WR Jim

I was lucky enough to get a couple of nice set of LW Justice NCO collar tabs a couple of days ago. If it were not for the tags, I promise that no one here(including me) would have had any idea what they were as I have never seen admin tabs like them before. Again, I hope that he made a photo archive of them.

              Dear Drew,

I believe Craig Gottlieb has a pair of T&S Chaplain tabs in his gallery section.

Such statements as these being from "Pakistan" is just nonsense ... you have to see these.

I have a number of Thiele & Steinert pieces in my collection today and have owned them previously. Gary B has some I used to own.

Another Forum member verified the story. The stash of these insignia -- along with lots of other items -- were discovered by an antique dealer in eastern Germany. A truckload of stuff was hauled out. Eventually, they ended up in the hands of dealers like Winkler who apparently bought much of the lot. He sold some of it on his website but I suspect much of the more desirable insignia never made it to the internet. I would sure appreciate other WAF members running images of theirs.

Here are some samples of this magnificent insignia. I like items that come with original cellophane and envelopes. Just a personal preference.

                          Wow Mike

Those are not insignias, they are trully peices of art. That quality is impossible to achieve today. I wonder How many hours it took for somebody to complete the job. Trully amazing. I would love to get some pioneer insignia.

                          thanks for the photos

I have never seen another like this... and the notation on the envelope is a quick ID! Without it, I would have never been able to figure them out, as these tabs are not referenced as such in any books I have seen(Check out the piping)...

                            Here is the first one..
