Originally posted by maui View PostHi WR Jim, please see the attached pictures for some additional detail images , also this cloth ( black cotton drill) on both the wrapper and trousers was analyzed by John Casino as being original to the TR period. Also, your wrapper looks great.
Thank you for the additional pictures. First of all take anything I say with a grain of salt. I'm no expert just a collector trying to learn. As far as SS goes consider me brain dead. However I once owned an SS HBT wrap and of course the cut is different from the Army cut. The wrap you show is heer cut, dyed black from what I can tell.
I am very skeptical of any Heer cut HBT or denim wrap with zig zag stitching behind the collar. I have never seen one I believe to be original. Certainly doesn't mean they didn't exist. I would need a lot of convincing at this point to change my opinion. Doesn't mean I'm closed minded. Just last month B.N. Singer proved to me that splinter smocks with hoods were made and his friend had an original example.
The reproductions are very good. The HBT and Denim cloth is fairly convincing. I actually think the fake HBT cloth is somewhat easier to detect. Its a much more complicated weave. The repros use various base cloths, different finishing pieces like buttons etc and change their stamping.
Without condemning either wrap I made a few comparisons, between your wrap and the one Lucas posted. Disregard the base cloth and color, focus on the way their made, finishing materials etc. If you used one to judge the other what would you say.

hello,

so do i.
it is a fact that SS panzer crews sometimes used some heer cut 2nd model pz drillich uniforms; wrapppers and pants.
on those,
i've seen the wear of colar and shoulder insignias, arm eagle, even awards (as ccb for), but never an armband.
regards

I was contacted by a collector in Germany who just picked up this grouping directly from the daughter of the vet. Its been in the closet for the past 63 years. As it turns out the wrap is identical to the one that started this thread, except it hasn't been screwed with. They are both stamped in an identical manner. I opted not to post the markings. Here are a few pictures. WR JimAttached Files
