DIFFERENCES OF FIRST MODEL And THIRD MODEL IN PANZERJACKE BLACK

I feel that in my experience this is definately the exception and not the rule. Speaking in general terms the panzerjacke was manufactured thoughout with four closure buttons behind a fly front. I have owned many panzerjacke now (I currently have 13) and examined many more, and every three button example I have seen has been a personal modification. (I hhave at least three right now that are shortened to three) It must be regarded as exceptionally rare if it exists. What sort of dates are the examples you have seen? late? early? .

Yes, your are correct it is quite atypical to find one having only a three main button closure.

And your very large collection of examples Wade I am sure supports this. I would like to see pictures of your modified examples as reference.

Off hand, I cannot say as to what the specific dates of these jackets were, I will attempt to research this (I do know of a collection with a few more than you have).

Mr. Hritz, respectfully, I would not consider anyone having four black or green wraparounds to be a mere "peewee." Most would feel that way in comparison to you in regard to SS cloth insignia (I might venture to say)!

Tom, yes, as surprise it may be to you, there are those who do not actively participate in these forums, watching only "from the wings," that have extensive collections and wish to remain in a "low keyed mode."

My humble apologies to Wade and the other forum members viewing this thread, who I might have confused.

After requesting a through examination of the wraparounds in the previously mentioned collection, I have been advised that each having a three button closure do appear to have been altered.

Therefor, my comment concerning three button jackets as a factory production does not seem to be valid.

Sorry for any confusion this might have caused.

Greetings and (for me) Good morning!
I thought this might be the case. I have several panzer or stug jacke modified down to three buttons, with at least two of my seven named pieces being reswen in this manner. Next year you will be able to see in detail all of these when my hardcover book on panzer uniforms comes out. In the same manner as it was fashionable to shorten the skirt of the service tuinic, many panzer troops had this done with their panzerjacke also.

So there you go! four buttons down the front is the norm, unless modified! Certainly too there are some large collections of panzer and stug around that are not well known and I have been fortunate to see several in Europe that have made my mouth water! I have forgone numbers recently in the pursuit of named sets from the owners or their families, of which I now have seven. Nothing like having the uniform, the wearer's photos, medals, papers and such!
