Here are some of my embroidered on wool birds I collected during the 1960's, 1970's and early 1980's and have managed to hang on to. As you can see, different checkered breasts and different amounts of reverse bobbin threads.
Here is a KM identical to one shown earlier in the thread. This piece has a pre cut silk backing that was attached with a brown paste glue that has pretty much turned into a brown powdery stain on both reverse and backing.

I agree.I wasnt dismissing either piece based on my preference.
The two tone effect is just something i like to see.

To me, heavy white or green reverse bobbin thread has always been a must for adding U.S. made WWII patches to my collection, but with 3.R embroidered cloth insignia it never entered into it, I guess, because I had seen too many same obverse and reverse colors early on in collecting it. I guess it boils down to personal preference.
