A continuation of 60 year old Leather. I really respect Paul as a collector and might add he has great taste in displays. But Iam confused on this belt and by no means am I a Belt person,,please fire away,,and if it is fake,,no great loss,,into the rubbish bin it goes. I also welcome Pauls input on the smell, whom said it smells like fresh paint. To me it smells like the store I picked it up from,,,and that would be in my opinion,,,disgusting or old dye like. The smell to me is very stale. The reason I doubt it as fake is the store I got it from is not militaria and there was no story behind it. Iam not diehard out to prove it original, but the damn thing just seems right to me.

Paul has handled it,,and his opinion would weigh in greatly,,,my only argument is the source of this item,,,and Iam not a story buyer AT ALL....But IMO this is a good piece. (belt novice here) But Iam used to being around old stuff,,as noted in Pauls thread I smell tested it on people here who are not into militaria and they just replied,,old stuff,,get it away from me. MMM has also handeled this belt. A lot of the stuff I get is distressingly new looking and I have no complaints on it at all!Last edited by münster; 05-12-2005, 01:10 PM.Iam Uncle Sam

Yep I have seen this one
It comes from a small store which largely gets its stuff by clearing houses in Koln.
The guy who runs the shop pressed a load of Christian literature in my hand last time I met him. I would trust him not to get into trouble with a bottle of Viagra and a coach full of hormone crazed cheerleaders.
This belt was one of his clearance pickups and my guess is its new and unused having been stored,
There is a stamping on the buckle if I am not mistaken, maybe Dion could get his camera out again.
regards
Mark

the stamping is on pic3 mark,,,you can see the circled in pencil outline,,its def an eagle,,not saying a faint eagle stamp makes everything ok,,,but I have no reason to doubt this beltLast edited by münster; 05-12-2005, 01:46 PM.Iam Uncle Sam

Belt
The officer's wide brown belts that I commonly see resemble the one I'm posting below. It accommodates a cross strap. I've been told that it could be early luftwaffe. I'm no expert (btw) and merely wish to provide a comparison for reference. Mine is also very "new" looking but retains an odor of old leather. But, with leather items, I don't completely rely on smell, how does 20 year old leather aroma compare to 60 year old? They seem to be of similar construction My only question would be the color as I've yet to see one (in my 3.5 year tenure). Perhaps it was stained dark late or post war? Just my $.02. (should post in belts and buckles forum)Attached FilesLast edited by Demianthedog; 05-13-2005, 09:16 AM.
