Yes indeed, as the old saying goes hindsight is 20/20.
And yet some buyer remorse may still occur with this
30K BPS said to be Ancient Roman Legion VII eagle.
As I asked the auction house if the Roman eagle had
been X-Ray spectrum tested for any zinc content, and
they replied "No". If it has zinc it is a modern made fake.
IMO it was foolish to pay 30K BPS for an untested eagle.

been fought so long ago. There, by the hamlet of Studyenka, not
far from Borisov, our engineers found the traces of Napoleon's
bridge and one of his eagles in a swamp." I wonder where this
              eagle is now?
This pole top (M1804) of unknown regiment was found in 1963, now in Borisov Museum. It has replica cloth (hardly it belonged to 44th IR).

Thanks for posting the found M04 eagle.
Likewise, the 44th replica flag is superb.

Unfortunately, original cloths of them lost their colors, back in the 19th century. Now they have a terrible dirty yellow color.

You can see the modern condition of the cloths and this vile color in this Russian-language reportage from the Kazan Cathedral:

Also an example of the restoration of the regimental flag (148th Infantry from Borodino Memorial).
It was captured by 28th Jager regiment 29.08.1813 in Battle of Plagwitz near Löwenberg in Schlesien.
By the end of the 19th century, original colors were lost, the fabric was dirty yellow. The cloth was restored three times - in 1912, 1956 and 1970. By restoring, the tricolor was completely renewed. The lost original elements (numbers, letters, patterns) have not been restored.

                                Interesting about the multiple restorations.
Wondering about the number of eagles in
museums vs. private collections - not many
                                likely in either case.
