    Curt Bräutigam (over) Plauen. Vogtland

If anyone has a RKF made by this manufacturer would you be so kind as to snap a picture of the stitching at the bottom corner of your flag and send to me or post here. I have two flags that have no manufacturer mark but exhibit an across stitch pattern with three diagonal stitches as well as the usual rows of stitching along the entire bottom edge, in this case not 5 rows as you usually see but only 2rows. No stitching on the sides. I have reviewed this entire post and can only find one manufacturer whose flags have the same pattern. The maker is Curt Bräutigam (over) Plauen. Vogtland.

Both are naval marked. One is 50x85 and the other is 80x135. Both made of fine thin wool with square reinforced patches in the upper corners. Both are 2nd pattern.

    Thanks!!

        Thanks!!
I guess no one owns one of these flags.

Fake flags with real manufacture names?

Does anyone have any knowledge of known fake flags out there where a real manufacturer name is stamped on? Take this example, #4 on OFW's list is . "Johann Liebieg & Comp. Reichenberg Sudetenland, *OFW (Gosch, RKF)"

With this example, does something seem off with the header, rope, and rope attachment? Or is it just me. I just can't make a decisive call on on this in terms of authenticity. Does this flag look authentic or not to you guys?

                      All opinions appreciated.

                        Hello dmels:
IMO most fake flags with real marker looking markings are
seen on black SS Lager flags. The RKF you are asking about
IMO is a WW2 period made original, based on header edge
railtrack pattern, reinforced corners, extra edge stitching,
material color and weight, and valid period header markings.
On this RKF, what may be looking wrong to you is the bright
white looking rope in mint never used (unsmashed down)
condition. IMO rope appears to be a correct thicker type.

Thanks a ton OFW. What you said makes perfect sense. The fakers seem to get really sneaky on the SS stuff from what I have seen. The rope is exactly what was throwing me off. When I looked at the rest of the flag everything was seeming to check out, but I kept looking back on that bright rope that was in excellent shape. Thanks again for your opinion, and the list in this thread that you are working on is a magnificent reference!

IMO that is a late war example of a Johann Liebing flag manufactured in the Sudetenland. I have an earlier example on E -Stand that I just withdrew. Look at the difference on the ropes and stitching.
