There's the pic of the rope ends, as far as the material, it doesn't have a nice tag that says "100% silk", but it is a very smooth and thin material that certainly looks and feels like silk. Besides, that's what I was told befor eI bought it. Everything else is sewn on and looks and feels like cotton.

The only silk i can think of used in the war were parachutes. Could it have been made from chute material ? but this looks thicker to me than chute material ...Or possibly made in japan for the germans, as the japanese made some stuff for the germans during the war. The japanese would have been able to make the material as they were the masters of the silkworm. Ill bet it was beautiful looking in the sun. Too bad there is no prov to verify its origins of why silk. maybe rayon or satin ..ya think?silk would cost a fortune to make that large, im bettin it aint silk , just my common sense opinion. None of the ww2 german flags were colorfast as far as i know in cotton. If washed the colors ran into the white turning it pink . Thats why you never wash a german flag among other reasons. Ive never seen any battle flags like this. I cant comment on originality as im not a flagnut but it has seemingly stymied OFW also, and he knows flags . May never find the answer on this one, except what was passed down by word of mouth. Looks like a one of a kind and it appears well made, but the shots are not that clear ...hope you someday score this one, and the other you mentioned...although ill bet you wont get it cheap. You might do better to trade something for them the present owner wants or needs someday....thats a possible angle. I like it anyway.Last edited by juoneen; 03-31-2009, 01:21 AM.

Based on this RKF being of sewn togeather construction and the
use of a steel "Simplex-hook", IMO it was made outside of Germany.
RKF's made for both UK and US Navy use were of sewn togeather
construction, but usually just of the pre-1939 first pattern design.
This RKF being the second pattern design, was likely made in France
during the occupation, thus its non-typical German flag material use
and construction.
