Posting this plastic WHW donation pin just for reference on this topic.

OFW, in the Luft Flag Chart you posted, the two upper-center flags appear identical, but the text say they represent all 3 regiments of the RGG - are the two flags different in a way not clear in the small photo?

          Hello Scott:
Thanks for posting the RGG 1st Battalion flag plastic WHW pin.

Two upper center flags in the post # chart show the 2nd & 3rd
Bn RGG & 1st Bn Para Rgt flags, which are the same and without
          the 1st Bn. shield.

Thank you OFW - until you mentioned it, I never noticed the little shield below the wreath on the WHW flag

Are there any images of RGG flag bearers wearing the Fahnentraeger arm insignia?

I guess there must be more than one on the left OFW. I think some are shown in the Taylor/Angolia police book. And like you, I found one with the black enamel background in an auction in STL about 1980. Ended up trading it to George P. for my police Fahnenträger gorget. I have a photo around somewhere, but it's an old polaroid I think.

OFW, so the standard of the I Btl of LPG Göring was discovered and auctioned in 2016? I remember one of the flags was auctioned at the first Max Show in StL in 1985.

OFW, according to some images in the Petersen/Bender book on the HG regiment, the LAPO finial on the right was on the flag with the Southern Cross patch.

Interesting comments. Not sure if the shield flag sold
in the 2016 auction? Likewise, the shield is off center
in the auction photos, so maybe it was added to a LP
flag to upgrade it, as the small shield is not difficult to
embroider. Also I've heard that the Southern Cross
Tradition was recinded from the 1RGG, so shield could
have been removed from the flag prior to 1945. But if
that is so then the needle outline holes would show.

You read the Petersen/Bender book? George wrote that it was thought the SC shield was later removed. As for the one in the 2016 photo, the Southern Crosst looks a lot like one of the repro colonial shields that came out years ago with a white background. They were often confused with the police issue of the SC shield worn on tunic sleeves but were embroidered on green cloth. But the Kolonialbund shields had a white background to the embroidery.

Also, I finally found the photo of my LAPO fahnenspitze taken 37 years ago. Time sure does fly. The photo you posted is a bit dark and I cannot tell if the finial in your image has the enamel damage showing in mine. Mine also has a curve to the tear drop.

No, have not read the P/B book, but it was likely
GP that told me about the SC shield remove too.
Interesting comments about the SC patches, and
IMO your years ago top is not the same as post 22b
on left. Base below star appears to be different, as
is the star swastika location, at least to my eyes.

OFW, they are the same. Your photo was edited for use in a book I would suppose. Notice the entire white background, so the original background was removed by photo editing. Notice the first curve on the base below the top on yours. On the left it is almost a smooth curve, but on the right the curve has been cut. Also, look at the white area in the curly-curs below the star. They have been whited out. You cannot make a valid comparison of the two photos as the outline of yours was digitally manipulated. Here is another view of mine more head on. Your photo shows a curve to the rear of the tear-drop, just like mine. I think yours shows enamel damage too. It is the one I sold to George. From what book did you take it?

My RGG pole top photo file dates to 17 Dec 2014,
and came my way I believe via my long term flag
collecting friend Steve Wolfe. Peterson/Bender HG
book by Schiffer Pubs I note dates to 1 Jan 2004.
As I do not have the HG book, it is not clear to me
if the HG top photo came from there or not?

George and Roger's book that I have dates from 1975, ISBN #0-912138-12-2. I didn't realize Schiffer had republished the book as that is the cover of the first edition.

After I bought it, I recognized the LPG finial I had seen at a dealer in StL earlier that later appeared at the auction. And I got it. George said he found another, but I think it was the one on the right in your photo. Perhaps I had shared my photo with Steve, or perhaps George did. If you lighten up your image a bit, you can see the missing black paint. It is a photo of the one I bought.
