Although in poor condition, I find the pistol quite interesting.
To increase its value and interest in the future, I would have the son gather all the paperwork he can about the pistol and keep it with the pistol. If there is some documentation where the original owner had to relay the story to the authorities in writing later in life as to how it was acquired, that should be included. Are there any photos taken, even after the war, with the pistol in the original owners hands, that should be gathered up. If nothing like this exists, then the son should write the complete story about the pistol and its connection to the original owner and have it witnessed and notorized to be kept with the pistol. Maybe its just me but I would also include photos of the "hiding place" in the floorboards.
Without a documented story, this is just a rusty old pistol with minimal value!
