sling-king, us1945 needs some help with a German pre-WW2 sling

    Hey,

Some of you know that I found 2500 original German WW2 slings, and I sold about 700 now..so have seen a lot of original slings the past 2 years...BUT

Then I found a sling wich is other than all those normal slings...and I really hope somebody could tell me from what kind of pre-WW2 German weapon it whas. I know 100% sure that the sling is German as his markings. (never seen any collector yet...let me know if you feel a collector for this sling)

I`ll make a good discription..and will add some clear photo`s! Anyway I want to thank everybody for there help.

*same as normal German ww2 sling but just some longer, not cut of because it`s still longer than a normal sling.

*very early rough style buckle, seems to be also some wider as normal

    * marking on the outside (very uncommon..have seen now 3 or so) marking says: J. Meckart, ULM, 1934

*it seems that the holes are a little bit different...not like a water-drop, the sling did not had a keeper(frosh)

    sling

    Hi Tom!

I think this is just an early pattern sling for the Kar98k rifle. Being a first year of production for this arm, it just has not made it to the common pattern of length and hole configuration. The early wide-headed pins are common up til about 37/38, when the OKW handed down a directive that these be changed due o abrading the rifle and soldiers' clothing. I believe Bergflak has a copy of this order.

Nice sling! I sent you an email.........

How much longer is the 1934 dated sling?
1934 was a transition year and I have 98a slings dated in 1934, yours has a sliding adjuster unlike the 98a slings however perhaps transitional for double duty? Anyway, the 98a slings should be 53-56 inches and the 98k are what 48 inches?
The 98b while still in service would have used the standard sling? One would think so? - I have never seen a 98b with a early sling so I suspect as the distance between the rear band & buttstock slot is about the same as for a 98k I would imaging similar slings were used for both (the 98b extra length difference is in front of the rear band).
Anyone have a 98b with a sling they believe original to the rifle? (the Gew98M while probably the most numerous rifle in German service 1934 used the old Gewehr98 sling mounted along the bottom, so we can discount it).

By the way the maker mark is: "J.M. Eckart, ULM, 1934" and later they became code “dyo”
