So, I am buried with personal responsibility and didn't have time to get this cleaned up myself. I took it to a local gun shop with a gunsmith. They have an affinity for WW2 stuff and knew exactly what I wanted done to it. They took it apart very carefully and checked all of the numbers. The number on the handguard and the number on the bed of the stock match, which was great news. Then the guy told me that he took the bolt apart and checked and the firing pin serial number matched. I didn't know they were still getting that detailed in 1944!
Here are some pics of it. It still isn't a MINT rifle but for a 73 year old rifle, I would say that it is in great shape.
Sorry I didn't have time to get pictures out in the sun during the day. Someone said that they are busier since they retired then when they were working for a living. I didn't believe him but I found out he was right!!
