    Dear Gentlemen,

    This post is really for the UK guys but it may be of interest to others.Here in the UK all deactivated sub-machine guns have since October 1995 been welded shut and its impossible to take them apart.Buts its legal to keep and/or sell an old specification one if you have one ( at the moment.....watch this space reossible new home office legislation).

    As a result in the spec change 'old spec' deactivated guns are getting so very expensive ! IMO way too expensive.I mean the MP40 is a really nice gun but is it really worth £2000 ? So I just thought some UK collectors may be interested to see what they go for in Germany.The laws have just changed there but these German 'old specs' can be stripped.
    Just a shame that to import one into the UK would land you in jail

    Roughshooter, that's just sickening the last new spec I saw was £800.00, that much money for a lump of welded metal . An American forum member said something poignant about owning historic weapons in the UK, 'doesn't your government trust you' The answer is no. We have all seen how gun crime has increased in the UK since the mid 80's handgun ban, would it be any worse if the ban hadn't been introduced? Tim.

      My understanding is that they don't import MP40's in to the UK any more as they simply fetch more money as live firers in the US, I don't know how true this is. I remember when they were £320.00.

        You will have to excuse my ignorance on this chaps, but even if it has a deact cert from Germany it would be illegal to import it??

          I'm afraid so Simon.The law is very complicated regarding this matter but basically anything which has at anytime been a firearm (except those manufactured prior to 1900 and chambered for an obsolete calibre) and is now deactivated to any other countrys standards, other than the UK standard, cannot be certified as a de-activated firearm here until it has been at either the Birmingham or London proof house and had received a proof house stamp from them saying that it reaches or exceeds the current standards.So theirfore if it hasn't been to the proof house then in law its still a firearm as far as the Police and the courts are concerned.You would need Section 5 authority even to import it even though the barrel is plugged and had three holes drilled in it and the bolt is cut at 45 degrees !

          In Holland for example the standard exceeds even the UK for de-activated rifles but if you import it without the authority then you are really in trouble.Basically in the UK its live until we (the home office) say otherwise.

          That, gentleman, is why I brought a second home in Austria....but thats for another thread !

            UK authorities are paranoid , well as long as the bad guys are owning
            illegal arms everthing is OK in UK ...isnt it

              Sorry abut the stupid questions as you can tell I don't collect these, have thought about but never purchased a firearm. Whats section 5 then??

                Section 5 Authority is a special authority issued in the form of a licence by the secretary of state for the possession of what are (in the UK at least) prohibited firearms.Basically you won't get it unless you are a dealer.

                  And old spec MP.40.s for £2100
