Bill, VERY nice example. This brings up the very interesting subject of Russian weapons used by the Germans in France. I have a SVT38 that was also a Vet. bringback from France, I also think it was "Gene" who posted a SVT40 that was a vet. bringback from France.
I have a book that lists the complete roster of firearms for a specific Div. on Normany just prior to the invasion. It is packed with captured weapons and they are listed by country of origin. I also have a German army magazine that shows German forces in Holland all with SVT40's and Nagant rifles.
Very nice
Robert

That's a tough find - a mosin in it's original finish and trim from the war.The vast majority were reworked after the war so few have survived in issue trim.Looks like a bolt mismatch , but we can't have everything. The duff cut is an easy repair - have fixed oodles of gew98 , kar98a , 98k , and numerous other rifles that were duff cut from WW1 and WW1 by returning service men.Alot were cut down as well not so much for duffle bags - but because of package size restrictions when allowed to post things home. The bolt needs to be de-rusted a bit.Go get some KROIL penetrant oil and a soft wire brush and fill a small bowl with kroil - soak bolt for a day then dip and brush , dip and brush.
PS - I have a large hardbound book on D-Day with a forward by W.Churchill and in there is a pic of US glider pilots in a higgins boat being returned to england and in the corner of the pic in the higgins boat is a 98k and an Svt40 - obviously souvenirs of those GI's !.

As mentioned by Gew. 98 these really are tough to find in issued condition. 99.999% of the millions of mosin nagants made during the war years were either reworked by the Soviets post war or were beat to hell after being handed out as communist aid to third world nations. I'll bet I've seen 10 matching 98k's for every one unreworked matching 91/30. Very nice example you have.
