    MG17 infantry modification

    Hello,

Here is another not common example of the gun used by German Wermacht - infantry modification of Luftwaffe MG17.
Those guns when removed from service and used on ground as quads and single guns used by ground troops.
There is not much info in internet on this type. I found second example in Imperial War museum, here is the link.

    http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/30034571

It fits well Laffette 34. The cocking handle has serial as one at IWM.
I assume it was used at Laffette the most as there is no evidence of rear sight. ( it is just my quess ) or may be it was not needed at the time it came to front

The gun has all original finish.

    Thank you for looking!
    Max

            Hello Max,

That's another really nice MG you've got there.
As for the sights: The front one is the kind used on Panzermantel MG34. It is reversed, being the other way round. The rear sight might be that other part I have also circled in red. It would be a simplified kind of sight, just like those used on Stens and othe allied weapons.

I have a 300 round segment of an early MG17 belt. What belt do you have on your's? MG17 or MG17/81?
