Did the SS stamp their own rifles ?

Hi ,

I,ve been looking for a de-act k98 and came across a nice de-activated k98 with the Zf41 scope on it , the dealer claims it is an SS issue and it has SS stamps on it inside a lozenge shape is this right ? . All the numbers match up and i have various pics if needed . Just puzzled by it as i didn't think the SS stamped their own weapons ?

Hello,
You have brought up a really hot topic. I don't know alot about SS marked weapons except for what I have read in Law's book. I do believe that the SS did stamp thier own weapons but The best thing for you to do is to post some pictures because that is what the experts here are going to ask you to do. There has been alot of SS faking going around so seeing the runes is the best way to tell if it is original. Besides the SS markings sounds like it would be a really nice sniper.

Grant, My gut says ....The stock w/extra recoil lug is I believe a postwar French addition....The runes in the diamond are pure fantasy IMHO.....Bodes
