Ownership, Confession & Apology

Bigdibbs88 & Whomever was in this thread...

It is early a.m. and I want to apologize to Bigdibbs88 in public and to my fellow collector brothers who I most likely offended greatly. Forgive my forward approach here but I want and need to be on the forum. There is not much I can say after all this other than the way I behaved was reckless and wrong. You may write me off and chose to not want to include me in future forum threads and if so I would understand. I would ask for forgiveness, grace and a second chance. Bigdibbs you most likely hate me but I would ask you to remember to not leave a fallen man behind as our credo. Mike P's Comment shook me out of my state and got me back to reality.

There is no excuse and I would ask that you not take any of this as pity, justification or a reason for you to forgive. I do have PTSD - Hyperarousal and don't sleep much. Tonight is no exception. I am very ashamed of it and the episode that unfolded before your eyes over a rifle amongst other things. So not sleeping tonight is a product of me & my actions. For almost 25 years it has gotten slowly worse. I joke with my loving wife who has stood by me "there is no medicine for what I have". When attacked, feeling trapped, perception of being ganged up upon or when negativity comes I struggle and spin downwards. This was from a trauma scenario back in Desert Storm which means nothing to my apology I know and is no excuse. I do know adversity, attack and critical situations coupled with other things can trigger me to go off. I have posted above my computer tonight one of many post its "this one says not an attack - bigdibbs88" to remind me to be civil and accept things on the forum with the intent they are meant.

The rifle was the last piece from our collection I acquired in full so that tweaked me. My Dad has a couple months left as he is battling cancer. I saw a shell of a man earlier today and tried to cope. Climbing on the forum tonight was a way to escape and relive some memories of collecting with Opa. Little did I even realize until I just read the threads how horrible I was. Jekyll Like. I was younger when this rifle was bought by Opa and coveted it for years. It was priceless due to the history. I know in my heart it is just a vehicle evil used in WWII. The final chapter hit home when I was given the rifle. It is the loss of my collecting partner Opa 5 years ago and now Dad leaving soon that really engaged me to join this forum a year ago. I just started posting about a week ago. I needed something to replace what is being removed from me. Most collectors keep things because there is something missing in their soul or heart.

Enough of my story. I hope you can have some mercy and grace for me and not look downward upon me for opening up. I am deeply sorry for my actions, behavior and rant. I will stand accountable some day for it. If there was a way to delete this thread / memory I would do it and undo the mess I have created.

Hey guys,

Wow, looks like quite the discussion went down last night. Just wanted to get this thread back on track. This rifle deserves some positive attention. It's a beautiful and hard to find ar42 with capture papers. The capture papers are the cherry on top for sure. Sometimes it's difficult to swallow negative opinions on something you had your heart into. It's happened to all of us. We've all been burned and always want to attack the first guy to post anything negative on a prized piece. You have to handle bad news with dignity.

Having said that the stock has undoubtedly been sanded and varnished made very obvious by the rounded edges of the bolt cutout as pictured below. And I know you may not like to hear it, but the two guys who gave you the negative news, bigdibbs and Mauser99, are as close as it gets to being authorities on the subject of the k98 rifle specifically. More often than not they have to be the bearers of bad news when they speak up on a post. As everyone knows in this hobby there is a lot of fakes and messed with items. I for one like to know that guys like bigdibbs are there to find any flaw with my pieces so that I can take appropriate action.

Anyway, beautiful rifle, shame about the stock. thanks for posting it..

Yeah, from what I can see of it, the stock of your rifle has been sanded and varnished. That really depreciates the value of the rifle. I'd say maybe 2,000 at this rate. However, you should not say it's "untouched", rather "untouched to the best of my knowledge, I'm open to any criticism regarding this matter". They should have a bull**** filter on this forum so that you can't say something and then get upset when someone like bigdiggs decides to make a /very/ valid point.
