First off 33/40’s use the same standard length bolt as the Gew 98, 98a, 98k, vz24, g 24 (t), 29/40, 29o and countless other 98 styled mauser actions.
Pictures will clarify everything. While I hate to speak in absolutes when it comes to collecting armaments made by the Germans, I highly doubt that a legitimate matching 33/40 has a 98k bolt in it.
<O
A solid handled bolt, with the SN on the top two Wa655’s on the bottom came off of a late 39’ through early 41’ dated “42” coded (Oberndorf) 98k.
It is not legit for a late 42 Brunn made 33/40. At least not one that was made in 1942. Even if a 98k bolt was used it would have been proofed with the e63 proof that was being used at Brunn at that time. Also, there are documented matching dot, 1942 marked 33/40’s well into the “d” block with the correct 33/40 hollow handle bolt.<O
Again, I don’t like absolutes because we can always be surprised.

wa140 is FN. many many subcontracted bolts have this mark. They were found on mid to later war 98k's, typically bcd and byf.
Here's a good link to the waffenampt codes:

Also, Dallas, and any others may want to check out the K98 article on this site. There are good photos taken that compare some of the differences between the K98 and G33/40 (bolts, as well as the rest of the rifle).

To the discussion if a 98K bolt matches the 33/40, it does....
I have a barn found 33/40 which has an 98K bolt in it ....
What i have learned in that thread ..the z in the circle is a Czech proof, i was
always woundering what this stamp represents on my second 33/40 which is coded 945/1940
if you use the search function maybe you can find this one here, because there was a thread sometimes ago where i posted the rifles ...
