    Akah PPK Holster

Hello. From my research most holster or German field gear with brass hardware is unusual.

This holster is non dtd, only DRGM and Akah marked. I believe it to be pre-45 but not 100% comfortable with it as I would suspect these were post war produced. Can anyone provide details/discrepancies regarding the brass stud or the holster overall please.

This is a prospect for my collection. Thank you for your time and expertise.

This is a D.R.G.M. marked Akah holster that came (just barely) with a RZM marked PPK. While the stud is not brass, the metal has a slightly yellow cast. Definitely not aluminum.

The "just barely" remark about the holster came from almost not getting the holster. The PPK was a walk in at a small show, and was in a nondescript black pebble grain holster that did not fit. I bought the pistol, and as the seller started to walk away he ask if I needed an extra holster. He pulled the Akah holster out of his jacket pocket, and only after I got it home found that the bring back papers were folded up in the spare mag pocket.

There must be of brass/copper composition as the vertigris is has formed under the washer.

This is probably "German Silver", or Neusilber as the Germans called it. An alloy of copper, nickel, and zinc.

Thanks for your interest in this thread. I have seen a few of the neuslilber type hardware on my searches also. No problem with those but the first posted look much more yellow as brass.

The stud is brass. You don't have vertigris (the green ring around the base) forming on nickle or steel.

Most anything alloyed with copper will form verdigris when it comes in contact with acedic acid, such as left in the leather holster from the tanning process. Most brass contains more than 60% copper.

German silver is also 60% copper. When it acquires a patina, it yellows and almost looks like brass. Polished, it goes back to silver. I would say that the stud on the original holster posted here looks like brass though.

Anyone have a holster with German silver latching stud that has vertigris. All of my small caliber holsters are either brass or aluminum.

No. Looks yellow (brass) in there to me.
